More than 65 years of craftsmanship in crane rental and transportation
What began in 1956 as a sole proprietorship in scrap processing and factory demolition grew into an established business in crane rental and exceptional transportation. Gheysens Cranes evolved along with the industry, continuously expanded its machinery and always remained committed to quality, innovation and service. Discover our story here, from the first crane to the modern company we are today.
In 1956, Jacques Gheysens of Ronse started his own company specializing in factory demolition and scrap metal processing. Home base is a 3,000 m2 site on Houtkaai in Bruges. Soon a first crane (Jones) is purchased to disassemble and load heavy elements. GMC and Dodge trucks provide transportation.
In 1970, the first telescopic crane (Krupp) appeared with a capacity of 25 tons and a boom length of 32 meters. This specimen was the impetus to add several cranes of larger and smaller capacities, forklifts and containerized scrap handling systems to the machinery fleet.
Showpiece of the early 1980s: a 135-ton crane with 80-meter boom. The first tractor-trailer combinations and extendable semi low loaders make their appearance. Gheysens Cranes expands fleet with 6×2 and 6×4 tractors. This along with flatbed trailers of all forms. To continue housing the growing fleet of machinery under roof, the company is expanding its commercial buildings on Houtkaai to 7,000 square meters.
The focus shifts completely to crane rental and exceptional transport. In 2006, Gheysens Cranes moved to the brand-new company complex on the Waggelwater industrial zone of Bruges (11,000m2). From there, we continue our vision: the need for quality, reliable service and modern equipment remains the lynchpin of our approach!
The new location in the Waggelwater industrial zone provides space for the entire machine park. But there is also possibility of storage and transfer in open or closed areas of various machines or goods and heavy equipment.
In 2014, Gheysens acquired the crane business of fellow company Mather. Thanks to this acquisition, Gheysens not only expanded its services, but also opened a second branch in Pittem. This expansion marked an important step in the continued growth and regional presence of Gheysens. The Mather company turned out to be independent and focused entirely on trailer rental.
